How to transfer your existing web domain to a new web domain?

If you already own a web domain and wish to transfer your sites to a new web domain, please follow the following steps

You should first provide your domain registrar with the following information:

Primary name server, Primary IP address, Secondary name server and Secondary IP address

If you don't know who your domain registrar is, you can find this in the public domains registry, WHOIS directory. Please note that your old domain name registration will remain with your registrar, and you'll still be responsible for any domain name fees or renewal fees with your current domain provider.

How to transfer your old web domain site to your new domain?

Transferring your old web domain to your new domain basically means transferring all your websites to your new domain. If you had a website under your old domain www.olddomain.com/website123, your website after getting transferred to your new domain will look like www.newdomain.com/website123

In order to transfer your old domain, you need to transfer all the related files.

1. First of all, you should save all your web site files - including images, sound files, and video clips, to your computer.

If you are using Dreamweaver, use the GET command to copy all your files.

If you are using Frontpage, use the import feature to make a complete copy of the old web site.

2. Transfer these files from your computer to your new web domain using FTP or any web-based file upload tool facilitated by the new domain provider. This will normally take around 24-72 hours to take effect

3. Once you've uploaded the files, you can preview your site before publishing it to the Internet. You can continue to preview and make adjustments until all your web pages look exactly the way you want.

If you are using an existing domain name, contact your registrar to change your name servers. This change will redirect your existing domain name to your web site hosted with your new domain name. Once this change has been made, you can publish your web site to the Internet with the click of a button.

Once the domain name and all your web site files have been transferred successfully, you should test that all services are working on your new host (i.e. email services, etc). If it’s working correctly, go ahead and cancel all your remaining services with your previous web hosting service company.
